It looks like Barnsley will not be successful in their attempts to sign former Manchester City midfielder Kelvin Etuhu. The 23-year-old midfielder is currently a free agent after having left relegated Portsmouth at the end of the season. He rejected the opportunity to stay at Portsmouth by declining the two-year deal he was offered by Portsmouth. However, it is thought that now he would be willing to discuss terms with Portsmouth, which could see his stay in the south coast extended. Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton has said that he wants to discuss terms with Kelvin Etuhu over the next few days in order to thrash out a deal.

Barnsley’s director Don Rowning has said that the club are extremely disappointed to miss out on the signing of 23-year-old midfielder Kelvin Etuhu. However, he has said that he can understand the decision taken by the midfielder. Even though it may involve playing with Portsmouth in the League One, Kelvin Etuhu has said that he is extremely happy at the club and would like to extend his contract. Rowning also has confirmed that Barnsley have submitted a much improved offer for Brighton captain Gordon Greer, although the club’s manager Gus Poyet has already admitted that he would not be willing to sell him at any price.

“I am going to get the offer to Kelvin over the next day or two – if I can get hold of him! Seriously, I believe he is on holiday at the moment so it’s just a case of finding the best time to get him. It will be a two-year deal and, hopefully, he’ll accept it and be ready to stay with us. I think Kelvin has proven his worth since we gave him an opportunity and he helped push us hard in what was a difficult end to last season,” said Portsmouth manager Appleton.
